Acne-Prone Skin
Using skin care products with certain active ingredients can help you control acne breakouts and even reduce the severity of future ones. Active ingredients such as sulphur, salicylic acid and mandelic acid are commonly used in skin care products suitable for acne-prone skin.
- Sulphur: Absorbs excess oil, dries acne and control sebum production.
- Salicylic acid: Treats deep pores and exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin and excess oil.
- Mandelic acid: An AHA which acts as an anti-bacterial agent, cleansing the skin, reducing fine lines and brightening pigmentation.
Mature Skin
For the purposes of anti-aging, ingredients such as glycolic acid, vitamin C and retinol are often used.
- Glycolic acid: An AHA that reduces the appearance of fine lines, acne, blackheads and excess oil.
- Vitamin C: An antioxidant that nourishes and protects your skin from free radical damage.
- Retinol: Protects the skin from damage, increases collagen production as well as treats acne, eczema, uneven skin tone and wrinkles on the face.
Pigmentation
Ingredients such as kojic acid and azelaic acid are often used to reduce the appearance of dark spots associated with aging.
- Kojic acid: Inhibitis production of melanin in the deeper layers of your skin.
- Azelaic acid: A natural ingredient, it acts as a powerful lightening agent and helps with people suffering from acne and rosacea.
Dry Skin
Dry skin types have different requirements from other types. Ingredients such as a ceramides, vitamin E and essential fatty acids to add extra moisture.
- Ceramides: Beneficial for eczema and psoriasis symptoms as it provides extra hydration and nourishment to your skin.
- Vitamin E: This is a fat soluble vitamin with anti-oxidant properties. It protects your skin from damage and provides deep nourishment.
- Essential Fatty Acids (EFA): EFA improves skin texture while providing anti-microbial benefits.
Oily Skin
Oily skin is characterised by the high levels of sebum production which leave the skin feeling greasy and uncomfortable especially in hot climates. Some ingredients that can help with this are kaolin clay, mandelic acid and BHA.
- Kaolin clay: This is supplemented with minerals and phytonutriets to remove toxins and lessen oils on your skin.
- Mandelic acid: This AHA acts as an anti-bacterial agent, helps with acne, reduces fine lines & wrinkles and brightens pigmentation.
- BHA: Or beta hydroxy acid are helpful for acne prone oily skin due to its ability to penetrate the pores. A good example is salicylic acid.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin needs extra care as this skin type is more prone to issues caused by changes in your environment and diet. Ingredients that can help maintain it are colostrum, arnica and allantoin.
- Colostrum: Packed with nutrients and antibodies, colostrum can increase your body’s resistance and improve skin regeneration.
- Arnica: This soothes redness, sensitivity, muscle aches, bruises, swelling, insect bites and acne.
- Allantoin: This ingredient is great for preventing dryness, itching, scaly skin and also soothes minor irritation.
