Food Regulation 1985 Update Jan 2018.

Inconsistent NRV values for Fat-Soluble Vitamins:

In the Malay version of the Food Regulation, Nilai Rujukan Nutrien (NRN) refered to NRV in english are correct while in the English version Nutrient Reference Value are only displayed in mg.

The Vitamins and Elements affected are:
Vitamin A
Vitamin D
Folic Acid
Vitamin B12
Iodine

It appears to be a simple typo from microgram (mcg / µg) to be milligram.
That is an x1000 increase in concentration.

It is important to be observant and to understand what we are putting into products, at times even from credible sources facts like the Ministry of Health.

They should be used for labeling purposes to help consumers make choices that contribute to an overall healthful dietary intake.

Who generates guidelines for the NRV?

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations & World Health Organization created GUIDELINES ON NUTRITION LABELLING in the Codex Alimentarius International Food Standards. Most countries will reference the standards from the Codex with adaptations for their local population.

The codex is available here[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”What Have We Done? – 19th September 2018″][vc_column_text]We have made an official report to the Ministry of Health and they have received a response.
