Hygiene for babies
New parents always assume babies have to be given a bath every day since they couldn’t imagine not bathing themselves. However, in a document prepared by the Canadian Public Health Association intended for parents, they came out with the conclusion that there is no need to shower your baby every day since bathing too many times might dry his/her skin because the chemical ingredient in the soap removes the natural protection of his/her skin.
If you have a newborn or baby younger than 1, a bath two times or three times a week is enough to keep him clean. It’s recommended that you clean the umbilical cord three times a day using cotton swabs soaked in water. Dry the area with cotton swabs. You don’t need to wash baby’s hair more than once or twice a week.
Over bathing will dry out baby’s skin. Too little cleaning will cause baby’s skin problem such as milk rash and diaper rash.
