Farting is often considered embarrassing. But, being able to pass is not only normal, but also an important signal of health. It is in fact, a by-product of your digestive system.
Gas is produced in your body during the digestive process. It is also swallowed when you eat and chew. This gas eventually builds up in your digestive system. Some of it is absorbed naturally while the rest needs somewhere to go – usually a fart or a burp.
So what happens when you don’t pass gas? It builds up and this can be uncomfortable or even painful with issues like bloating.

The Benefits of Farting
Farting is a healthy signal from digestive tract that it is indeed, hard at work. As it should.
Signifies diet changes
A balanced diet includes vegetables, fruits, lean proteins and grains. These will produce gas.
Some complex carbohydrates cannot be digested in your gut. Instead, they’ll ferment a little before being removed as waste. This also produces gas.
If you eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates, less gas will be produced, but, for other reasons this might be unhealthy. Therefore, a balanced diet is healthier for your body, even if it produces gas. As it should.
Reduces abdominal pain
When you process food in your digestive tract i.e. eat, chew, swallow and digest, gas will collect in your gut. If there is a lot of gas collected, this will cause pain. But, farting clears this accumulated gas as well as the pain or pressure.
Improves colon health
Sometimes you might hold a fart in because its just not the socially appropriate time. But doing this too much can actually irritate your large intestine. And hemorrhoids if you have any. Like peeing, its always better to release a fart than hold it in.
Reduces bloating
While bloating is mostly harmless, it can be very uncomfortable. It is characterised by feelings of swelling and fullness. By relieving gas, you can also release the feeling of bloatedness.
Signals potential food allergies or intolerances
Some foods may produce symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, bloating, and gas. This is your gut saying that you might have an allergy or intolerance to these foods. If you experience these symptoms consistently after eating a certain food, it may be time to see a doctor. They can order tests or help you with an elimination diet to figure out which food(s) are causing excess gas and other symptoms.
Signifies a healthy gut
A healthy gut has a healthy microbiome. These are the good bacteria living in your gut, keeping it healthy as it digests food more easily for you. A thriving colony can produce more gas.
Farts are pretty hilarious but they’re also natural and amazing for our health. They can signify a healthy gut, reduced abdominal pain, improved colon health, and reduce bloating.
