About Chinese Clay Teapot

Teapot has been used to brew tea since the Sung Dynasty in China. Chinese clay tea pot is traditionally used to brew tea as it is able to absorb the color, flavour and luster of the tea. When they are brand new, they are often slightly dull compared to those used teapots.

Ways to Season Teapot

So, the first thing to do when you got a brand new Yixing tea pot is to boil it with clean water around 5 to 10 minutes to wash out all the sediments in it. Notice that the utensil being used must be clean as Yixing clay teapot tends to absorb in whatever flavor that are present. After being boiled, let it completely dry before you season you Yixing clay tea pot. This usually takes around 2 to 3 minutes. Then prepare the tea leaves that you want to season for your teapot. For example, if you want to use pu’er. Put in the pu’er tea leaves in to your Yixing clay tea pot and then add in hot water. Prepare a big bowl or pot where you can submerge the whole teapot in it. Pour out the tea in the tea pot to the bowl and add in hot water again.

Repeat this step until you feel that your Yixing teapot can fully submerge into the tea. After your submerge it into the tea wait until the water cool down to room temperature then your Yixing clay tea pot is seasoned and is good to use. After repeated using the Yixing teapot begins to absorb more tea into the walls of the teapot and becomes seasoned with a coating that retains the rich flavors of the tea.
